Richmond at a glance
Richmond County is in the southern Piedmont region of North Carolina and is home to cities of Hamle and Rockingham, the county seat. Towns inside its border are Dobbins Heights, Ellerbe, Hoffman, and Norman. Just minutes away, is the famous resort village of Pinehurst, which hosts the US Open Golf Championship for both men and women. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 42,946.
The County's central location, and transportation access make it strategically located to meet the needs of businesses with easy access to Interstate 73/74, 3 US highways (Hwy 74, Hwy 1 and Hwy 220) and multiple NC state highways. Richmond County is also home to the Hamley Terminal of CSX Corporation. CSX is a leading rail-based transportation company with a network encompassing 20,000 route miles of track in 23 states.
Richmond County Schools serves 15 schools, including seven elementary schools, four middle schools, and four secondary schools. The county is also home to Richmond Community College, which serves 6,000 students and offers college degrees, diplomas and certificates in over 50 areas of study, plus many short-term training classes that provide workforce credentials.
Agriculture is one of the foundational pillars of Richmond County that continues to flourish as one of the county's most substantial economic drivers. Richmond County is a community of natural riches and is the perfect escape for people who want to experience the great outdoors. Racing fans are sure to know Richmond County's most visited tourist destination, Rockingham Motor Speedway-more commonly known as "The Rock."
